Kellomar Online

Hello. This game is in the (extremely early) technical alpha stage.
You are free to hop on and play the game, but please keep in mind that nothing is polished yet, and a bunch of features are still to come!
Character wipes will probably happen, too, so don't invest too much of your time if your only goal is to get an "early player" advantage.

Key Features

Limited Time Investment

Kellomar Online is a Turn-Based Online Multiplayer RPG.

This is one of those games where doing things in the game costs "Energy", and you get back some Energy every hour.

The idea is that the player is protected from the "gaming addict" impulse to sit down and play for 16 hours non-stop.
Instead, you can choose when to play, get your actions done, and put down your game to come back later.

Players are rewarded for playing regularly, but still have time for other things in life.
I believe this is more healthy for the end user.

From a gameplay perspective, the energy system also means that players can get away from the typical "max damage and speedrun everything" mentality.

Even for high-level "competitive" players who want to reach the leaderboards, the META will revolve more around efficient use of resources, and less about time sinks.

Areas and Adventures

The gameplay of Kellomar has two main gameplay modes: Areas and Adventures.

"Areas" represent things like towns, or larger "overworld" regions where you travel between different places.
Areas don't pose any danger, but they are a way for you to take actions such as resting to recover your health.

"Adventures" represent an area of danger, opportunity, and excitement.
This is where you fight monsters, gain experience, gather loot, and explore to find hidden areas and other secrets.

Adventures cost Energy to enter.

If you die in an adventure you lose all the spoils you could have gathered from that adventure.
So be prepared when you go in, or you risk wasting your energy for no reward!

Turn-Based Adventures

Adventures happen on a turn-based hex grid.

Reveal the adventure map bit by bit as you explore and find enemies potentially lurking around any corner.

Search for hidden exits to unlock secret areas and bonus adventures!

Manage your risk, make sure you get out alive....
Dying means you don't gain experience or treasure!

Resource Economy

Things like Health and Mana are limited resources in Kellomar.

Regaining them is a luxury which is gated by the energy economy.

HP and MP do not regenerate over time.
Instead, you can spend energy to rest in town, which refills your resources.

Things like healing spells or life stealing attacks may be added in the future, but opportunities to use them will be limited.

In the case of things like healing spells, their use will be gated by your MP.
MP does not refill unless you spend energy to rest, so this would equate to trading one limited resource for another.

In the case of things like life stealing attacks, you'd need to find an enemy to hit.
Fightable enemies only exist inside adventures, which cost energy to enter -- so the energy economy is preserved in this case too.

Action Economy

Kellomar's mechanics is inspired by tabletop RPGs as well as computer RPGs.

The things you can do on a turn is limited by two things: Actions, and Tempo.

"Actions" represents categories of actions that you can do in a turn.
You will be able to make a number of actions within each category on each turn.
For example: An assassin might get two attack actions and one move action per turn.

"Tempo" represents the time your character uses to think and execute the actions taken during your turn.
For example: A "heavy attack" might cost more tempo than a "light attack", but they would both only cost one "Main action"

As you level up your character and choose your class path, you will unlock different abilities that use actions and tempo.
Plan wisely to make sure you get the most out of every turn!

Stay In The Loop!

There are many plans to expand and build upon the game.

Some of the plans are crystallized already.
Some other ideas are still a bit vague and can be affected by your input.
